2009/2010 Glambassador for Glamour Magazine

A couple of weeks ago I received my welcome package from Glamour Magazine! YEAH!! I am so happy to have been chosen as a MOMBASSADOR for Glamour. What does this mean? First of all it means lots of fun for myself and my circle of influence. We will get VIP access to Glamour events and offers and I we will be the first to know whats going on in home, health and family, as well as fashion and beauty.
I wanted to share what I received from GLAMOUR with everyone! A GLAMOUR tote bag filled with goodies! A flip video camera, Glambassador cards with my personal information(to hand out), Glambassador paper and pens, and 6 Target gift cards to hand out to girlfriends so that they can try Maybelline products!

Thanks GLAMOUR for choosing me as a GLAMBASSADOR!

Adoption

Over the past 5 days I have been anxiously checking email and Facebook to check on my dear friends trip to Ethiopa to see her son. This is the first child for “M” and “G” and I couldn’t be more excited for them both!
“M” texted all of us as she was holding her son for the 1st time, saying that it felt that her heart was going to burst! This feeling is no different for any 1st time mother, no matter HOW you become that childs mother. Every child is a blessing and I can’t wait to meet this little guy once he comes home to Chicago!

40th birthday or midlife crisis?

So my husband turned 40 a few weeks back. He didn’t want a party or anything out of the ordinary for his birthday. (or so I thought!) 2 days before his birthday he told me that he wanted to skydive and to make the reservation. I was excited for him yet nervous at the same time as we have 2 small children and are expecting a 3rd. I made the reservation and the whole family trekked about an hour away to see him jump out of a plane, midlife crisis you ask? I don’t have a clue!

We watched as a plane went up and people started jumping out, my husband was busy having some kind of training before he jumped tandem. His jump went fine and he did say that he was a little nervous as they stood on the edge waiting to jump (or be pushed) out! He made it, no broken limbs and tons of pictures and a video to commemorate his experience. Afterwards he got his ear pierced and that was it…HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

My Try at Bread Making

My 1st attempt at homeade bread

My 1st attempt at homeade bread

I think that everyone likes the taste and smell of Fresh Bread.
I came across a recipe on Twitter from www.thesaltymomma.blogspot.com for her families homemade bread recipe. I have always been AFRAID to make bread as it seems pretty detailed and difficult. My girls were anxious when I pulled out the mixer and couldn’t wait to taste the bread. I made her 1/2 recipe and messed up on 2 steps which changed the appearance of my bread.
Step #1, I didn’t let the bread rise long enough the 2nd time around, resulting in a flatter loaf of bread. I had these little girls begging me to put the bread in the oven so they could get a taste.
Step #2, I put a little more water than stated in the egg wash, which made my bread turn out pale instead of a warm brown color.

Don’t get me wrong the bread smelled up the house and tasted wonderful! I will be trying again this week and hope to get a better result.

Field Trip

My co-leader and I took our girl scouts on a field trip to a local grocery store (Strack and Van’Til) yesterday. Sometimes you run out of places to go and things to do, we found this place thru a direct mailing from www.Fieldtripfactory.com. If you visit the site, you type in your zip code and find field trip places in your town, many of which are free.

Our girls got to visit different areas of the store, the Dairy Section, Produce Section, Meat Section, Deli Section and Bakery. In most areas they got to sample a food, learned about making healthy food choices and also learned how items got from other countries to the U.S.A. At the end of the visit they got to scan some items at Checkout and received a goodie bag to take home. Overall they enjoyed the visit, although a few were a little squeemish when in the Meat Cooler (my daughter included).
